FURTHER to Mr Barry Gibbs’ letter (Letters, August 2) would Mr John Tanner care to explain why, when the Labour Party was in power, they had a top tax rate of 40 per cent for all but a few months prior to the last general election, when they cynically raised it to 50 per cent.
I don’t recall Mr Tanner shouting about his government giving tax breaks to so-called millionaires then. Also, if, as he says, that an improvement of 0.6 per cent in economic improvement wouldn’t be noticed, will he also say that any reduction of less than a per cent is also nothing to worry about?
Then again, don’t bother with an answer as it will be total hypocrisy, as is almost all of the Labour Party’s criticism of the Coalition Government’s efforts to correct the mess the last Labour Government left this country in.
