EVERY summer more holidaymakers escape Blighty for guaranteed sunshine overseas – and who can blame them.

Not only is it incredibly easy to book a last-minute break somewhere hot and with everything you need for a family holiday, you can bag yourself some real bargains.

But while families may feel the benefits of a holiday abroad – our tourism industry is feeling the pinch.

When considering tax rates in other Euro countries, it seems right that calls are being made for the Government to cut the existing 20 per cent VAT on visitor attractions and accommodation – it’s just 10 per cent in Spain and Italy where tourism rakes in millions every year. Something needs to be done to reduce the lure of the cheap package holidays abroad.
