DRIVERS and residents are suffering from extra congestion in Didcot as lorries are re-routed through the town.

Oxfordshire County Council is carrying out work on Manor Rail Bridge on the A4130.

The diversion route in place is via Station Road past Didcot Parkway, Abingdon Road and the town’s northern perimeter road.

Work started on Monday, July 8, and is not due to finish until Monday, August 5.

Town council leader Margaret Davies said residents have complained about extra HGVs. She said: “The noise of HGVs coming through the town is rumbling night and day.”

Telecoms manager Ian Marshall, 51, of the Ladygrove estate, disliked the “sheer volume of HGVs thundering past 24-7”.

He added: “Much of the diversion route is through residential areas. This has caused many sleepless nights.”

David Nimmo Smith, county council cabinet member for the environment, added: “It’s inconvenient but we will try to complete the work as soon as possible.”
