A GROUP has been getting behind a campaign to save a rare meadow by selling cakes.
To encourage people to dig deep members of Bicester Green Gym and Langford Community Orchard Group decorated cakes with butterflies and flowers to highlight the appeal and raised £75.
Last month Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) launched a £270,000 appeal to buy Meadow Farm, near Bicester, a rare 28-hectare site along the River Ray, to conserve it for future generations.
It is just £10,000 short of its target, which must be reached by the end of the month.
Pam Roberts, co-ordinator of the Langford Orchard Group and member of Bicester Green Gym, said: “We are raising money because it’s a real treasure on the doorstep of Bicester. It’s threatened and if it’s lost it’s gone forever.”
