A NEW £3.5m pipeline is to be built by Thames Water to help serve customers in southern Oxfordshire.
The four kilometre pipe will carry water from Woods Farm treatment works near Streatley to the reservoir at Moulsford near Wallingford.
The 12-inch pipe will increase the amount of water the treatment works supplies to the network to nine megalitres per day, more than four times the current amount.
Construction work is expected to start in the autumn.
Andrew Popple of Thames Water said: “South East England is seriously water stressed so we need to make best use of all water available.
“This new pipe will allow us to take more water from the ground and distribute it around the area.”
The pipeline will be laid using ‘no-dig’ technology and it is hoped there will be no road closures.
