THE man accused of holding police at bay during a 12-hour stand-off in Kidlington has today been remanded in custody.

Daniel Rodriguez, 38, has appeared before Banbury magistrates accused of five crimes in relation to the incident in Morton Avenue on Tuesday.

During the hearing today he interrupted the prosecuting solicitor and would not stand up when instructed by chairwoman of the bench, Carolyn Preston.

Rodriguez has been charged with two counts of possession of an imitation firearm, one of using an imitation firearm with intent to resist arrest, one of possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid and one of false imprisonment.

The imitation firearms are listed in the two possession charges as a handgun and a gas powered air rifle.

Wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and with a plaster on the left side of his neck, he gave his address as the flat in Morton Avenue that was at the centre of the siege.

Police were called to the flat at 3.40am. Armed police were drafted in and hours of negotiations began.

At 9.45am and 11.37am Rodriguez's twin daughters were allowed to leave the property.

Police moved in and ended the stand-off almost 12 hours to the minute after they were first called.

Rodriguez did not make an application for bail today.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, July 18.

Rodriguez is also facing three counts of rape and another of sexual assault.
