Sir – How refreshing to read Hugh Jaeger (Report, June 27) calling for a light rail link between Oxford and Witney.
Of course, under this Coalition Government, such a sensible proposal doesn’t stand a cat’s chance in hell. With councillor Ian Hudspeth at the county council helm, we will be lucky even to get a bus lane to speed commuters along the A40.
It is time we had a Government which truly believes in public spending on infrastructure.
Taxing the wealthy and borrowing at low interest for essential transport and housing projects is the way forward. More Government spending is exactly the way to create jobs and pull our economy out of recession for the benefit of all.
