Sir – As a young person (16), it’s hard for me to understand why anybody would make such a fuss about the Osney Micro-Hydro project (Upset over work on Osney hydro-electric scheme, June 20). It seems to me that some temporary noise and felling of the tree (which is going to be replaced) is a relatively small price to pay when millions of the world’s most vulnerable people are facing droughts and floods because of climate change. This is set to get worse unless we have more clean energy projects such as this; we can all do our bit. I feel especially strongly about this as it is also about the kind of world I will grow up in.

I hope that those of us who have comfortable lifestyles will be willing to make small sacrifices, if needed, for the sake of future generations and the most vulnerable people in the world.

In fact, I feel so strongly about this, I would be happy to buy ear plugs for the few people who are worried about the temporary noise!

Finally, I would like to thank the micro-hydro group and local residents for making such a beneficial contribution to our community and our planet.
