Sir – The Osney Lock hydro power scheme has passed through the planning process, and has many supporters.

Those of us who live on Osney Island, and who remain unconvinced by vague reassurances about noise, concerned about the future management of an industrial plant in a residential area, and sceptical that the sale of amounts of power to the National Grid really addresses the important issues, must, therefore, accept that we are in a minority (even if we are part of ‘the community’ too), and that the scheme will proceed. It was your sub-editor who translated Martin Stott’s advocacy for Osney Lock Hydro into the headline ‘Community united’ but, as residents who did register concern at the planning stage, we feel compelled by his tone to state that this is not the case.
