POLICE and Crime Commissioner Anthony Stansfeld has paid back more than £140 of his expenses.
Earlier this year, it emerged Mr Stansfeld, the police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley, had claimed expenses from an office four miles from his West Berkshire home to the police headquarters in Kidlington.
This resulted in an audit of his expenses by the Thames Valley Police and Crime Panel, and now Mr Stansfeld has agreed to pay back £142.20 in “non-compliant” expenses claims.
He said: “I don’t do my own expenses, they are done by my staff.
“There was a mistake in the way they calculated it .”
Since then Mr Stansfeld, who earns £85,000 a year for his role, has drawn up a new “travel and subsistence policy” which took effect retrospectively from April this year.
Under the new rules, which follow guidelines drawn up by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, he can claim back an additional £194.85 because of journeys he made which would have been considered business journeys.
Mr Stansfeld says he will not be claiming back the money.
