Between March 2008 and March last year, the number of officers fell from around 245 to 204.
Road safety charity Brake warned it means drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol can get away with dangerous driving.
Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive at Brake, said: βIt is desperately worrying.β
