MORE than 200 runners braved the heat to take part in the Didcot 5 race.

The run, organised by the Didcot Runners, started on Sunday from Willowbrook Leisure Centre on the town’s Ladygrove estate.

There was a five-mile one-lap race for experienced runners with a two-mile fun run for youngsters.

The event is organised by Didcot Runners with support from Didcot town council and Willowbrook Leisure Centre.

Proceeds from the race go to local charities.

Woodstock Harriers runner James Bolton won with a time of 25 minutes, 38 seconds.

In third place was firefighter Gary Crone, 42, who is based in Kidlington. After clocking a time of 28 minutes, 15 seconds, Mr Crone said: “I live in Kidlington but I used to live near the leisure centre so I know the area well.

“It’s a very well organised run and it’s a county championship race for clubs.

“It was really hot out there but it’s a good way for me to keep fit for my job.”
