A BURGLAR was jailed for three years yesterday after stealing electrical items.

Michael Gallagher, of Clarks Row, Oxford, admitted the burglary in Woodstock Road on Thursday, May 16.

Cathy Olliver, prosecuting, said the 32-year-old broke into the house by forcing a kitchen window open, which attracted the notice of a 16-year-old who was at home.

She said Gallagher was stealing electrical items from an upstairs bedroom when the teenager approached him and said: “Can I help you?”

The burglar replied: “No, go away.”

He escaped on a bike he had outside while the teen tried to stop him, Oxford Crown Court heard.

The stolen goods were later recovered by police from an address in Wyatt Road.

Judge Patrick Eccles noted that Gallagher had 40 previous convictions, including five for domestic burglaries, and sentenced him to three years in prison.
