YOUNGSTERS are hoping to be first past the post in a race they have been preparing for since December.
Pupils at Henry Box School, Witney, have built electric-powered go-karts to race against other schools from across the UK.
The team of 10 13- and 14-year-olds will put their kart to the test at the Rockingham race track, near Corby, Northants, on Monday.
The Greenpower initiative is part of a scheme to get young people into engineering.
Harry Swift, 14, from Witney, said: “You get to engage with the younger children too.
“I'm learning a lot from it.”
The school has also been working with its partner primary schools, which have already raced their own karts.
Design and technology teacher Nick said: “Their enthusiasm and drive has just blown me away.”
