THIS crawler crane got stuck on its way to the site of the hydro-electric project in Osney Island yesterday.

Residents watched as the vehicle from the Environment Agency’s contractors Greenford was unable to pass through Bridge Street because of parked cars at 10am. The vehicle was stuck for an hour. Environment Agency spokesman Joe Giacomelli said: “Our contractors had done a letter drop with local residents saying the vehicle was coming through.

“A lot of people did move their cars.

“They managed to get through.”

The crane will be used in the construction of the Osney Hydroelectric Plant from Monday next week. Osney Lock Hydro group raised the money to fund the £500,000 hydro scheme at Osney Lock, the first community-owned turbine to be installed on the Thames.

Barbara Hammond, director of Osney Lock Hydro, said: “The crane was delivered and we are expecting to be able to start proper building work on Monday. “We are feeling great about that.”
