READING the words of a defending QC in the Bullfinch case (Oxford Mail, June 27, page 2) “if he had been fortunate enough not to be brought up in the Cowley Road area things may have been different”, it really made my blood boil.

It is as if he were saying if you were born in that area, your only option was to turn to drugs, rape and sex exploitation.

My husband (we were married at Wesley Hall Church) lived in Bullingdon Road. I was born and bred in Bath Street, St Clement’s, one of six children, and we were aged four to 12 when my father died.

We all used to go to Wesley Hall Sunday School and church, and all of us were in the Scouts and Guides. We would walk the Cowley Road to our vicar’s house or to friends who lived on the Cowley Road. We all lived through the Second World War, going through rationing and blackouts.

We had no TV, or video games. We had respect for teachers, policemen and our parents.

Don’t tar all of us with the same brush because we were born in or around the Cowley Road.
