Sir – In response to your article (June 20), titled Postal workers could refuse to deliver rival mail.

Your readers may have read about a consultative ballot of its members by the Communication Workers Union, which represents many postmen and women.

I would like to reassure people that there is no impact on their mail as a result of this consultative ballot. We continue to collect, sort and deliver your letters and parcels.

In business, when we work together, we achieve a lot. Working with the CWU, we have delivered significant change which has benefited all of us, for example, a new regulatory regime.

So going to the High Court this week to seek an application for an injunction to prevent the CWU from inducing its members to refuse to handle Access mail was not a decision that we made lightly. We are committed to working with our unions on a new way forward for Royal Mail, our people and our customers.
