MORE than £2,200 was raised by a family’s sponsored walk for Helen and Douglas House.

Six-year-old Benjamin Oliver organised the event from Rich’s Sidings in Didcot to the Civic Hall in Britwell Road on Sunday for the East Oxford hospice, which has helped his terminally ill dad.

More than 50 people took part in the fundraiser, which ended with family activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, a karate class and a raffle.

Benjamin’s 28-year-old father, Matt Oliver, a former karate teacher, has received care at the hospice after an advanced brain tumour has left him immobile and unable to talk.

Didcot 28-year-old Stephanie Beal, Benjamin’s mum, said: “Ben is very proud of himself. Matt’s mum and dad were there and they thought it was amazing. They were touched that so many people wanted to raise money. It is a wonderful cause. There are such amazing staff there, they make everyone feel so happy.

“Everybody said they loved the walk and it was a fantastic day.”
