I WAS very interested to read your front page article, ‘Drug Squad nets £64k’ (March 30).
The piece states that “the Police said that the team was the first of its kind in the City” is wrong.
I quote from Geoff Rose’s very good book, Oxford City Police: “In 1967 there was a drugs problem within the University and the Chief Constable set up the first full-time drug squad in the country.”
Thames Valley Police can claim what they like, but the evidence that the first drug squad was set up a mere 46 years ago is irrefutable.
