IT appears that there are yet more cracks appearing with the procedures in Oxford City’s Planning Department.

Not only are the locals inadequately informed regarding proposed development in their community (ViewPoints, March 26), it now has come to light that the parish council has not been sent details of all of the planning applications in the parish.

Apparently there is confusion over Old Marston and Marston wards. For this mistake to happen once is regrettable.

For it to happen repeatedly is not acceptable and shows a lack of care. Where is the transparency and clarity?

In any job the boss carries the can and errors must surely be called to account. The responsibility falls on the shoulders of Head of Planning Department – Michael Crofton-Briggs, and councillors on the planning committee within the ward – Mary Clarkson and Roy Darke – to ensure the parish council has responded to each application.

To help with this task, I would advise Oxford City Council to invest a little cash from its kitty to purchase a large map of Oxford and its suburbs, and clearly and accurately mark out each ward for accuracy and easy identification. Then each ward receives may receive the correct paperwork it needs.

It is Imperative that everyone – the public and parish councils are listened to, have genuine input, and are able to impact upon planning decisions. Mistakes can prove to be very costly.
