A West Oxfordshire venue has been shortlisted for a national tourism award.

Blenheim Palace is a finalist in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2013.

The Woodstock stately home is in the running for large visitor attraction of the year.

In December, Blenheim Palace won prizes at Tourism South East’s awards for excellence for water use and cutting energy.

It picked up a gold medal for sustainable tourism and also took a silver medal in the large attraction of the year category to give it a place on the national shortlist.

John Hoy, chief executive of Blenheim Palace, said: “In the past year there has been significant investment to improve our visitor facilities including the launch of our stunning East Courtyard Visitor Centre in 2012.

“We would be immensely proud to receive recognition for excellence across the business, and for our contribution to tourism at these prestigious awards.”

The Feathered Nest Country Inn, in Nether Westcote, on the Oxfordshire border with Gloucestershire, is also up for an award in the new category tourism pub of the year.

The award ceremony will be held on May 20 at Lancashire County Cricket Club.
