DID you spot our April Fools in yesterday’s Oxford Mail?
Many people did figure out that our story on Page 7 yesterday about a £200,000 pot for residents to copy the Headington shark and add to their homes with other aquatic adornments was a fishy tale on April 1.
But did you spot our bonus bogus story – that campaigners were trying to get the cooling towers at Didcot Power Station listed and thus save them from demolition, because they were the town’s equivalent of Oxford’s dreaming spires.
While readers on Twitter saw through the shark, the power station article was retweeted without comment.
The clue on the shark trail story – apart from the artist’s impression of how Old High Street in Headington might look – was calling city council leader Bob Pike instead of Price.
We weren’t the only ones up to a bit of japery yesterday. Oxford Ice Rink tried to fool us, the BBC, Heart and Jackfm with a picture showing the venue becoming a swimming pool for the summer. Nice try chaps.
