I REFER to Nicola Blackwood MP’s A34 meeting with the Government’s Transport Minister (Oxford Mail, March 28).

Based on my memory as a participant on Oxfordshire Structure Plan 2016, examination in public transport panel, all these issues were debated then.

From the county point of view, the trunk road has a dual purpose, to serve local transport needs, as well as acting as a long distance through route, while the Highways Agency consider the main function is to link the port at Southampton and the Midlands, and encourage commuters between towns, villages and Oxford to use an improved county road network.

These differences in opinion seem to have never been resolved, but the A34 is also a designated Euro-route. Does this then make it any easier to improve to motorway standards?
