NEW James Bond star Daniel Craig may - briefly - drive a Ford Mondeo in the new 007 film Casino Royale but fewer than a fifth of people think it is a suitable car for the secret agent.

The most popular choice for a Bond car would be 007's normal vehicle of choice of an Aston Martin, a survey from Barclays Motor Insurance showed.

Asked what Bond should drive, those polled said a Jaguar was the next best after an Aston Martin, with a Ferrari third, Porsche fourth and a Bentley in fifth place.

The survey also showed that the Aston Martin DB5 in the 007 movies Goldfinger and Thunderball was the favourite Bond car. It was also voted top car in all UK movies and TV shows. Mark Till, marketing director for Barclays Insurance, said: "It may be a shock to see someone as cool as James Bond driving something as practical as a Ford Mondeo, but for all those wannabe Bonds out there the change away from the typical Aston Martins is good news.

"The more expensive your car the higher your insurance costs so the Ford Mondeo will therefore make a substantial difference to your bank account, typically around a third of the annual cost of insuring an Aston Martin. That's a lot of vodka martinis."
