A family has paid tribute to the "best son, brother and uncle in the world", who died in a car accident 13 days ago.

Relatives of 21-year-old James Franklin, who died after a collision on the A415 near Ducklington, south of Witney, say they cannot imagine life without him.

They have also called for action to improve safety on the section of the road past Cokethorpe School, where five people have died in three years.

His sister Sarah, 20, of Cotswold Crescent, Chipping Norton, said: "James was the closest of close brothers. We were never apart. We have always been through everything together, there's only 13 months between us.

"He was caring and considerate and the best friend you could have.

"The best part was he would turn up unannounced on the doorstep with a teddy bear to give to his niece and nephew Chloe and Blake. They loved him.

"He was a joker. He would always cheer you up when you were down. The thought that he will never phone me or just turn up ever again - it's unbelievable."

James lived in Monmouth Road, Oxford, and worked for Eynsham-based demolition contractor Maylarch.

His other sister, Paula, 28, lives in Witney and his 16-year-old brother, Tom, lives in Cirencester with his father Les, 50. His girlfriend, Sammi Norris, 20, lives in Lincoln.

James went to school in Fairford and before moving to Oxford, had lived in Stanton Harcourt and Witney.

On the morning he died, he was on his way to see his father to help him repair his car. Sarah added: "It was typical that James was on his way to help someone else when he died. He would do anything to help and he was there when you needed him."

The family want action to improve the A415. Paula Franklin said: "I think there should be a speed camera or traffic lights. People need to be forced to slow down. It should be a 40mph zone."

James's funeral was held at Oxford Crematorium yesterday.
