2005 Domaine du Mage Ugni Blanc Colombard, Cotes de Gascogne: Domaine du Mage is actually an exclusive label for the Oxford Wine Company made by Domaine de Tariquet. The wine is made by the ebullient Yves Grassa, who owns Domaine de Tariquet, based in the heart of historic Gascony. This is a new wine from this stable and is a blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc grapes. The result is a crisp and fresh with lots of lovely citrus and apple plus the merest hint of boiled sweets with a touch of balancing sweetness to flesh it out. Great as an aperitif or with shellfish.

2003 Domaine Baudare Cabernet-Syrah Comte Tolosan: This red blend comes from the range of Chateau Baudare in the Cotes du Frontonnais north of Toulouse in south-west France. This estate has been owned and farmed by ten generations of the Vigouroux family. Today, David Vigouroux runs the Domaine and the Chateau with his wife Claire. This earthy vin de Pays red punches way above its weight with broad blackberry fruit from the Cabernet and a lovely lift of perfume and pepper from the Syrah. It's also dry and drinking quite beautifully right now, with easy tannins and bright acidity. Enjoy!
