Sir – Doesn’t Peter Berry realise (Letters, January 24) that the time to improve infrastructure is during a recession, spending money on employing people instead of on increased benefit bills.
Modern tram trains would be an excellent way to link Witney/Carterton with Oxford and ending the appalling A40 congestion.
This was made clear some years ago in a report by the consultants Mott Macdonald.
So, no we don’t need more studies — get on and do the job! The work could match the improvements to the Oxford-Bicester-Bedford and London Marylebone schemes, already announced by the Government.
