I WANT to thank you, the Oxford Mail, for bringing the story of the missing dog Scooby to the people’s attention through your newspaper.

He was stolen from Carl McDonald, a homeless man.

I read the story about how heartbroken he was when he woke up in the morning and his dog was stolen. Ever since, I have read the paper every day in hope that they would be reunited.

Being an animal lover myself I can imagine how painful it must have been to be without his loyal companion – the dog and owner lost without each other.

I hadn’t had time to read the day’s paper of February 12, when speaking to my mum on the phone in the evening, she told me Scooby has been found and to turn to page nine.

I hastily found the paper and scurried to the page.

Thanks Oxford Mail for printing the good news.

I cried with utter relief and happiness for them both. That was I am sure, the happiest day of his life. Us dog owners would be the ones to know how that must have felt for him.

Who knows? Without printing such heartfelt stories he may not have been found. Together with him being microchipped, a happy ending has occurred.

People who would steal a dog from his or her owner are callous and wicked.

They have obviously never had the love of a dog – a bond that is unbreakable both ways – otherwise they would never separate them from each other.

If they can do that, then in my book they would do this to a mother and child and we all would agree on what we think about those sort of people.

Enough said.

On a happier ending, thank God that on the whole, we are a nation of animal lovers and I am proud to be part of it.
