REGARDING the rat infestation in Cardinal House (January 25), as a former tenant, and living there for 11 years, I had rats in my flat. They used to come up through the toilet.

We also had a lady of 90 who encountered a rat in her kitchen. We trapped the rat between the washing machine and wall.

We rang the council and they said they could not attend. So we hired a pest controller from Didcot who came out and dealt with the problem, costing £50.

The rats are breeding on each side of the bypass because drivers throw their rubbish out of their vehicles. The council should be taking action to get rid of these pests before anybody gets a disease from them.
