CASH totalling £1,600 is on its way to two community groups in Oxford after grants were approved.

The two “chill-out fund” grants have been approved by county council cabinet member for education Melinda Tilley.

The council will now give £610 from the fund to Oxsrad, Marston-based Oxford and District Sports and Recreation Association for the Disabled. The cash will help pay for Sunday archery classes for junior members.

Centre manager Sax Saxton said: “We’re delighted that our funding bid has been successful – it will allow us to put the money towards putting on a less mainstream sport for disabled youngsters to enjoy. All funding is welcome and I’m sure the archery sessions will attract plenty of interest.”

Oxford’s Polish Saturday School was also successful in its bid.

About 110 young people aged five to 18 will benefit from the £990 grant, which will be used in a number of ways, including subsidising after-school clubs. The cash will also assist children’s learning in English and maths at the school, which is run from St Aloysius Primary School in Woodstock Road.

Committee member Hanna Darowska said: “We want to provide as much help as we can to Polish-speaking young people and I am so pleased that we have been given this money.”

The £100,000-a-year chill-out fund supports work with youngsters across the county.
