WITH regard to letters by Susan Thomas: We are paying too much and Ian Cummings: Case for leaving the EU (ViewPoints, January 25).

Susan writes: “If we leave the EU we can become extremely wealthy again.”

True – by leaving the EU (not Europe) we can resurrect more trade with the rest of the world (which includes the 15 other Commonwealth countries that our Queen is still head of), stymied at the moment because of EU restrictions, hence creating millions more jobs than if we stayed in the EU straitjacket.

Susan says: “UKIP is enjoying a huge surge in the polls.”

Polls can be misleading, especially as we are mid-term between General Elections (unless one is called early), but as I am currently local membership secretary I can reveal that UKIP is receiving about 600 membership applications a week, if that is anything to go by.

Ian Cummings is saying: “Of course there are benefits to our membership of the EU.”

My hand is (metaphorically) on King James’s Bible (of 1611) and I, as acting secretary of Oxford UKIP, cannot recollect any benefits of being a citizen within the EU.
