REGULARS at the Board Hotel organised a three-legged race and other events in 1981 to raise money for Action Research for the Crippled Child.

The final effort was a raffle with a giant teddy bear as the main prize.

Another village fundraising initiative took place in 1982 at the Talbot pub, in aid of the appeal for cash to build Oxford Ice Rink.

Among the attractions were a football tournament, barrel-rolling race, beer-drinking relay, volleyball, Aunt Sally and a competition to name a goat, run by landlord Andy Sheldon and his wife Lynne.

The five-a-side football team at the Evenlode restaurant was celebrating winning the regional round of a tournament run by Berni Inns in 1986.
