ERE we go again, local politicians and interested parties congratulating schools in Oxford and Oxfordshire for the results of the Key Stage 2 published on Friday.
Nothing wrong with that, but the problem is that those offering the congratulations fail to mention these results must be the result of work over several years for these Year Five and Six students.
So that excludes most of those making comments, who have been working to get more help into schools to help with reading etc, recently, as most of these efforts have yet to be fully implemented – indeed, many of the recruits and additional training for teachers’ assistants have yet to be completed – so this initiative has yet to bear fruit.
This, of course, means that many of the concerns had already been dealt with, hence the greatly improved results.
So I congratulate the students, politicians, staff and all the volunteers already in place and clearly doing excellent work, and we welcome the additional help that is about to come online.
