A MAN was yesterday arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found with head injuries in Woodstock.

The 45-year-old, who lives near Oxford, was last night in police custody following the incident.

Police and ambulance were called to a property in Brown’s Lane at about 2am yesterday after receiving reports a 41-year-old woman had serious head injuries.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman Gill Hodgetts said the woman was unconscious when she was found.

She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by ambulance, where she was yesterday described as in a serious condition.

Police cordoned off the area yesterday and issued an appeal for information.

Det Chief Insp Mark Johns said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and are currently trying to establish how the woman, who had just returned from a night out, became injured.

“We are keeping an open mind on how this injury occurred.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who might have information to help the police investigation, to contact us.”

Oxfordshire County Council leader Ian Hudspeth, who was volunteering at the Oxfordshire Museum yesterday and walked past the cordon, said he saw three police officers blocking off the road and a further two who appeared to be looking for forensic evidence.# He said: “They had just blocked off about 20 yards outside of where the incident took place.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
