CAROL Kilduff was among a number of East Oxford residents who gathered at the Cowley Road cafe Excelsior to remember a long-serving waiter.
The 65-year-old joined about 25 people on Saturday to remember Kostas Hajiyiani, who passed away in his home country of Cyprus last month. Mrs Kilduff said she started to visit the cafe shortly after it opened in 1961 and met Mr Hajiyiani when he joined in 1973.
She said: “I was very fond of him because he was always very caring about people and very sincere. That is what I will remember him for.” Cafe owner Andrew Koumie said: “I remember him as my good friend.”
Mr Hajiyiani, who was in his 70s, passed away after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He retired from the Excelsior in May due to ill health.
