I WANTED to respond to some of the points raised by your reader Julian Moody (ViewPoints, November 30).

TV Licensing has a database of over 30 million addresses and mistakes can sometimes happen.

We apologise for having written to Mr Moody as though his property is a business address. We have now corrected this on our database.

When someone does not need a licence we ask them to get in touch to let us know. Once we have updated our records, letters to the address are stopped for around two years.

A visit may take place to verify no licence is needed at the property. After two years we will write again, to check the circumstances at the property have not changed.

We have noted on our database that Mr Moody does not need a TV Licence and have written to him personally to confirm this.

Calls to TV Licensing are charged at standard rate from all landlines and mobiles.

TV Licensing started using 0300 numbers in 2009, at the recommendation of the BBC Trust.
