YOU report (Waterstock Golf Club rubble saga ends as brothers are jailed after appeal, December 8), only on the most recent chapter in this saga – not, unfortunately, its end.

While Ron and Mick are locked up, no progress can be made on resolving the matter. When and if they come out (they are men in their 70s and not in the best of health) there is no reason to believe that the county council will be any more likely to accept the Wyatts’ claim that everything reasonably possible has been done to comply with the terms of the enforcement notice; the removal of waste and the restoration of the landscape.

If the many officers, councillors (and various consultants and lawyers) involved in this case now and in the past believe that the jailing and probable re-jailing of the Wyatts is in the public interest then, as a resident of the county, I would just like to say “not in my name”.

I must also express profound regret that the political, planning and legal systems, in which I have played a part, have caused such avoidable suffering and distress – and with no end in sight.
