A WOMAN accused of murdering a homeless man after he assaulted her has said he never attacked her.

Joanne Moriarty, who is charged with killing Denis Witney took the stand yesterday at Oxford Crown Court.

Moriarty, 29, boyfriend Daniel McCollin, 30, and Wayne Cattell, 37, all deny murdering Mr Witney in a St Clement’s Street house on November 9 last year.

Earlier, the court had heard Moriarty had called McCollin and Cattell to the house when she found Mr Witney there.

The jury heard she was angry to see him because he had recently assaulted her.

But yesterday Moriarty said this was not true. She said: “Where is the witnesses to this? It never happened.”

Moriarty denied attacking Mr Witney and said she had not seen McCollin touch him either. She said: “I did not see what happened downstairs.”

But she said Cattell’s girlfriend Diane Hayes told her to blame McCollin for the crime, but she refused. She also said McCollin had never been violent to her in their relationship.

The trial continues.
