OXFORDSHIRE had its first, and maybe last, taste of snow this year according to the Met Office.
There was a light covering of snow throughout the county yesterday morning, but it did not settle.
On Tuesday night meteorological stations at Brize Norton and Benson recorded lows of -2.4C and -5.2C respectively.
But the Met Office forecast for the rest of December is for a drier and colder month than average, with little rainfall.
Today, there will be a few showers in the afternoon, but the ground is likely to stay white because of frost rather than snow.
Last night, the county council’s fleet of gritters went out from 7pm across Oxfordshire after road temperatures were forecast to drop below freezing.
They salted 43 per cent of the county’s road network including all A roads and many B roads.
There was minor disruption on the roads and railways yesterday morning because of the snow.
The southbound lane of the M40 near junction 10, Cherwell services, was blocked in the morning but it was cleared by 7.30am.
Delays were reported throughout the day on South West Trains running from Reading to London.
