Sir – I was appalled to read in the letter by Simon Morris (November 15) that “Jericho has declined into ‘little old lady land’ where the inhabitants live in their crummy little houses . . .”.
This description is grossly offensive to the elderly residents of Jericho.
In addition, I have heard many references recently (even on Radio 4) to “granny” (this and that). Not only is this terminology sexist but also inaccurate; many elderly women are not grannies. How often is the term “grandad” used in this patronising way?
