PASSENGERS were left shocked and covered in glass after a lorry crashed into a bus.

The accident happened on Botley Road, in West Oxford, at its junction with Ferry Hinksey Road yesterday at about 11.15am.

It involved an Oxford Bus Company 4B bus, which was damaged when a lorry collided with its left-hand side.

Three large windows were shattered, showering the inside of the bus and the eight passengers who were on board at the time with broken glass.

The lorry was also badly damaged in the collision, but the driver was unhurt.

George Cox and his wife Doreen, 81, were heading home on the bus when they saw the lorry heading towards them.

“The next thing I knew there was an almighty crash and flying glass everywhere,” said the 83-year-old, from Cumnor.

“Part of the lorry came through the window and knocked into my arm. It all happened so fast.”

Although police said a woman suffered some minor cuts, no one was seriously injured.

The accident caused delays on Botley Road for around an hour.

Oxford Bus Company spokesman Phil Ashworth said three people were injured in total, two passengers and the driver.
