EVERYONE has a problem. For me, there are three things that I feel are a real threat to the world:

1. Global warming. It has been known for some time that the increase in the world’s temperature is directly related to the burning of fossil fuels, with the start of this change being traced back to the start of the industrial revolution.

One gets the impression that governments are pussyfooting around this problem. There is no question that, in the end, fossil fuels will run out, probably sooner than later but by then the damage will have been done.

2. Increasing world population. Modern technology continues to make it possible to keep more people alive even, in some cases, at the expense of a decent standard of living.

With this increase in population, it’s clear that there will be problems with being able to produce enough food – as it is, the race to produce this food is damaging the environment by the removal of wild places, such as the rainforests – a disaster for many wild species, but it also impacts on all life because of the increase in the greenhouse gasses.

3. Israel. I am old enough to remember when Palestine was still in existence as a British protectorate.

That began to change when Jewish terrorists started blowing up buildings and killing British troops. There were also attempts to bring in large numbers of people of the Jewish faith – it was clear that this was an organised attempt to take over someone else’s country.

Another point that is a great worry is that Israel was allowed to develop the atomic bomb and, with a country so trigger-happy, this can only make for a very serious worry.
