A WOMAN has described hearing screaming in the house where homeless man Denis Witney was allegedly beaten.
Katey Hayes was living at the house in St Clement’s Street, Oxford, with her twin sister Diane Hayes and Diane’s boyfriend Wayne Cattell in November last year.
Cattell, 37, of Mortimer Road, Rose Hill, Daniel McCollin, 30, of Blay Close, Blackbird Leys, and Joanne Moriarty, 29, of Mortimer Road, Rose Hill, all deny murdering Mr Witney, right.
At Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Miss Hayes said she stayed upstairs during the disturbance and did not see an assault, but described later seeing blood on the hands of McCollin. She told the jury: “I heard lots of screaming and shouting and I turned the TV up.”
Of what her twin sister Diane told her she said: “She could not believe what she had seen and Danny was jumping on Denis’ head.”
Miss Hayes said that after the disturbance she left to buy drugs with Moriarty and when they came back she was shocked by the police tape surrounding the house.
Miss Hayes said: “We started to freak out. We realised something serious had happened.”
Mr Witney, who was found badly injured in the street, was taken to hospital, but died on November 8 last year.
The trial continues.
