MP organises housing meeting
1:00pm Wednesday 21st November 2012 in News
MP NICOLA Blackwood has organised a public meeting to discuss plans to build 160 homes off Abingdon’s Drayton Road.
The Oxford West and Abingdon MP said she was concerned residents felt they were not being properly informed about the application by Hallam Land Management (HLM).
She said: “There are already significant traffic problems in Abingdon at peak times and any proposed development needs to be adequately tested and residents’ concerns heard before any decisions are made.”
In its planning application, Hallam said the estate would increase traffic by at least 100 cars at peak times in Drayton Road. The application states: “A development of this scale is anticipated to generate in the order of 113 vehicle trips in the am peak and 100 vehicle trips in the pm peak.”
Hallam spokesman Andy Birch said: “HLM are pleased that residents will be offered a further opportunity to express their views ... The well attended pre-application public exhibition we held identified a number of key issues, traffic congestion being the one most discussed.”
The public meeting will be held on Saturday at 10am in Abingdon Guildhall.
Hallam refused to say whether one of its representatives would attend.
