WITH reference to Pamela St Clair’s letter (ViewPoints, October 25), had she travelled on a bus that would have been one more passenger and no pollution from her taxi.

Registered disabled, I hobble around on two hospital sticks. The buses have special spaces for wheelchairs and priority seats for the disabled, which I appreciate, as buses are often full or nearly so, not to mention the helpful drivers.

There is considerable luggage space for anyone who requires it and for those who must count the pennies, buses are cheaper than taxis.

I seem to remember that taxis were allowed through the High Street bus gates because they claimed that they could carry the disabled and that the buses could not.

Taxis should be banned form using the bus gates – other routes are available to them – thus removing their pollution from the High Street.
