SIX Oxfordshire rivers and brooks were tonight on flood alert after Wednesday’s night of heavy rain.

The Environment Agency listed the River Thame and Chalgrove Brook, River Ray, as well as Ginge Brook, Langford Brook and Wendlebury Brook as being potentially flooding.

According the Met Office figures there was 12mm of rainfall at Brize Norton on Wednesday night, but a spokesman said Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was not called out to any flooding incidents.

The Ray and its tributaries were on alert from Shipton Lee to Islip, while warnings covered the Thame between Dorchester and Marsworth.

The alert for Langford and Wendlebury brooks and their tributaries covered from Stratton Audley down to the M40 near Merton, including Bicester and Wendlebury.

The Ginge was on alert in Steventon to Sutton Courtenay.

The forecast last night had some periods of light rain through to Monday and highs each day of either eight and nine degrees C.
