I WRITE regarding the article about the collapse of RH Transport and Rodney Rose’s comments (October 25).

I find his somewhat dismissive comments about the whole affair quite incredulous, and do question his capability to hold the position of ‘member for transport’.

To actually admit that RH effectively tendered unsustainable bid(s) was at best foolish, and at worst utterly crass. He then cites how much it has cost the council to firefight the ensuing chaos, which looks like being far greater than it would have been if tenders been accepted from ‘proper’ bus operators.

He then acknowledges RH ran with ‘run-down and tatty stock’ (and what of safety standards?) and that accepting the lowest cost contract was ‘not seen as a negative thing at the time’.

When you add it all up, were Rodney Rose and his staff really so blind as not to see the writing on the wall?

Does the county council make any regular financial checks to confirm the soundness of all bus operators?

I suspect not, or they would have been more prepared.

Also, what about all those passengers who have bought RH bus passes that are now worthless, and seem unlikely to be honoured through to expiry?

Perhaps Mr Rose and his team should reimburse those passengers from their own pocket for acting in such a foolish and cavalier manner.
