British MC Stormzy dropped into BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Live Lounge, where he performed as part of the station’s MC Month.
The 22-year-old grime and rap star, who was introduced by host Trevor Nelson, was joined by his band as he first played his tracks Shut Up and Standard.
Singer Yasmin Green later accompanied the London-born musician – whose real name is Michael Omari – on a mash-up of Krept And Konan’s Falling with Wyclef Jean’s hit Maria Maria.
Stormzy said: “I always think, how can I make this my own, or how can I make it better than the original? I feel like if you’re going to do a cover, you have to give the original its respect but also you want to make it better than the original. Or at least memorable.”
His set went down with fans on Twitter.
Stormzy’s set may even have led to a moment or two of unproductivity as listeners tuned in.
