If you go down to the woods today you're sure of a big surprise… In the wilds of West Oxfordshire, Lady Rotherwick’s estate was certainly where the wild things were last weekend. Returning for its sixth sold-out season, Wilderness was once again the place to see and been seen this summer - with it’s hearty blend of hay bales, houmous and hot yoga…plus just a nip of naughtiness!

Our county’s not short of excuses to party, but this kaleidoscopic extravaganza maintains its position at the top of the heap and every August what feels like the whole of SW3 decamps to the Cotswold countryside for a dirty weekend with a difference. Trying to keep up with the 30,000 strong 72-hour Prosecco people has left me with a slightly sore head that’s still struggling to recall exactly what happened.

The gourmand’s favourite boutique bash is a bouillabaisse of top music, high arts, daring drama, pant-wetting comedy and food, glorious food. In fact, with so much temptation on offer it’s hard to know where to begin…or stop. I gorged on pulled pork for breakfast at DJ Seth Troxler’s Smokey Tails BBQ joint, lunched at Le Bun and left just enough room for a fabulous feast by one of the world’s finest chefs, Raymond Blanc.

And, the sunny days were whiled away enjoying talks from leading literary lights, pop-up performances of Shakespeare’s Love Labour’s Lost and reimagined classical concerts from boundary breaking company BitterSuite - whose powerful sensory experiences are like nothing you’ve ever felt before.

As for the music, highlights were of course a UK exclusive performance from rock aristocrat Robert Plant with his new band The Amazing Space Shifters, psychedelic pranksters The Flaming Lips and dance innovator Goldie performing his seminal masterpiece Timeless with The Heritage Orchestra. However, for me, it was (genuinely) local lads Glass Animals who stole the show on the lazy Sunday afternoon - debuting tracks from their hotly anticipated sophomore album How To Be A Human Being to a highly enthusiastic horde of hipsters.

In essence, Wilderness is a celebration of the outdoors and the ancient forests, iridescent lakes and rolling hills of Cornbury Park are the perfect backdrop to gaze at the stars and howl at the moon. A perfect three days to stimulate body, mind and soul before returning back from the rumpus to reality.
