Jimmy Carr’s dwarf joke on The One Show show has sparked an investigation by media watchdog Ofcom.
The comedian appeared on the BBC One series earlier this month to talk about his Greatest Hits tour.
“I tried to write the shortest joke possible so I wrote a two-word joke which was ‘Dwarf shortage’,” he told hosts Matt Baker and Alex Jones. “It’s just so I could pack more jokes into the show.”
He added: “If you’re a dwarf and you’re offended by that, grow up.”
Ofcom said it has received two complaints about the incident.
“We’re investigating whether potentially discriminatory comments in this programme met generally accepted standards,” said a spokesman.
The 8 Out Of 10 Cats presenter has previously found himself in hot water for his off-colour jokes.
In 2009, he said of amputee veterans who’d fought in Iraq and Afghanistan: “We’re going to have a good Paralympic team in 2012.”
Two years later, Jimmy issued a public apology after making an offensive joke about children with Down’s syndrome in a live set.
In 2014, he joked about the death of Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend of Oscar Pistorius, at the Q Awards.
“If she hadn’t been in that disabled toilet none of this would have happened,” he said.
Ofcom will report its findings soon.
